Vacancy Plumber, Electrician and Carpenter

VACANCY

Machakos University was awarded a Charter on 7th October 2017 and is a successor of Machakos University College. It is located one (1) Km from Machakos Town along the main Machakos – Wote road.

The vision of the University is: A preferred University of Excellence in Scholarship and Service Delivery; whereas the Mission of the University is: To Provide scholarly education through Training, Research and Innovation for Industrial and socio-economic transformation of our community.

Machakos University invites applications from candidates who are suitably qualified and experienced with excellent credentials to fill the listed vacant positions on one (1) year contract in the University:

1.    PLUMBER – GRADE 3/4  –(HR/P/01)
 Main Responsibilities

a)     Interpret basic layout maps for pipes and other water network equipment such as gate valves in regular installation procedures to ensure a well-connected water supply network

b)     Perform regular maintenance activities to the university’s water and sewerage network so as to ensure a continuous flow of water and sewerage to the various required points within the network.

c)     Participate in fixing sanitary equipment in new or existing buildings when called upon

d)     Participate in regular preparation of materials requisition notes for plumbing materials needed in installation or repairs works so as to guide in purchase of the same.

e)     Ensure timely pumping of water from the various wells into the reservoirs on a regular basis for there to be adequate water supply for use within the whole water supply network

f)      Participate in regular coaching of plumbing students during practical lessons so as to equip them with the necessary practical skills needed for this field.

g)     Prepare weekly reports on plumbing works within the university to demonstrate the amount of work done as well as the state of water and sewerage networks for decision making on the same. 

Job Requirements

Must be in possession of relevant Government Trade Test (GTT) Grade III in Plumbing.

KCSE level of education.

OR

Six (6) years’ work experience three (3) of which at Grade 1/2.

CAPENTER – GRADE 3/4  –(HR/C/02)
 Main Responsibilities

a)     Prepare wood for use in development of wooden structures within the workshop

b)     Repair wooden structures within the university such as tables to ensure they are in good condition for use in running of daily university operations.

c)     Engage in construction of office partitions, counters shelves or other wooden facilities to ensure proper state of the same for use in daily operation within the university

d)     Perform repairs of door locks and drawer/cabinet locks when need be so as to improve on safety of the university’s equipment and documents.

e)     Facilitate practical lessons for carpentry students to equip them with necessary skills.

f)      Prepare weekly reports on carpentry works within the university to demonstrate the amount of work done for decision making on the same.

Job Requirements

Must be in possession of relevant Government Trade Test (GTT) Grade III in Carpentry and Joinery.

KCSE level of education.

OR

Six (6) years’ work experience three (3) of which at Grade 1/2. 

ELECTRICIAN – GRADE 3/4  –(HR/E/03)
 Main Responsibilities

a)     Prepare sketches for new electrical extensions in buildings occasionally to guide in the installation process

b)     Engage in regular electrical installation in buildings or outdoor extensions so as to advance electrical power to desired points of use.

c)     Attend to regularly reported electrical failures within the university so as to institute the necessary corrective measures for continued stable supply of electricity.

d)     Inspect the standby generator regularly as well as perform basic maintenance to the same to ensure it is functional and can serve in case of an electrical breakdown in the university

e)     Ensure proper functioning of the university’s powerhouse through various controls on a daily basis to ensure proper electrical supply to all areas of the network in terms of voltages

f)      Repair/Service electrical appliances/equipment within other sections of the university on a regular basis so as to restore their functionality for continued effective operations in their respective sections

g)     Prepare weekly reports on electrical operations within the university to demonstrate usage of electrical materials as well as the state of the electrical supply network for decision making

h)    Receive, confirm and forward monthly electrical, DSTV and generator fuel consumption and maintenance bills for the payments to be made

i)       Install temporary public address systems for various sections in the university when need be to aid in effective communication.

j)       Participate in coaching electrical students on industrial attachment or during practical lessons so as to aid in development of their understanding of the field.

Job Requirements

Must be in possession of relevant Government Trade Test (GTT) Grade III in class C Wiring Electrical license.

KCSE level of education.

OR

Six (6) years’ work experience three (3) of which at Grade 1/2.
