VICE CHANCELLOR’S ADDRESS

In her speech, Professor Lucy Irungu, the Vice-Chancellor Machakos University observed that the university has a clear-cut niche in Engineering and Technology quite distinct from other Kenyan Universities. To illustrate this, she pointed out that among those in graduating class of 2019, there were students who have unparalleled minds and incredible prowess and who can convert ideas into practical realities using Engineering and IT knowledge. She said that it is now in the public domain that the IT gurus and the brain behind the famous I-Voting System, are students from Machakos University.

The Vice-Chancellor also lauded the Chancellor, Dr. James Mworia for the great role he is playing as a model to staff and students of Machakos University. She thanked him for his support to the needy and brilliant students through his Chancellor’s Scholarship fund and for linking the University with industry and other relevant partners around the world.

To respond to the need for reforms in the education sector, the Vice-Chancellor said the University is in the process of rationalizing and harmonizing its programs, departments and schools.  The University has also re-introduced TVET courses in an effort to equip the future University graduands with the required technical and practical oriented skills for the labor market.

The Vice-Chancellor informed the congregation that Machakos University is strategically partnering with Tianjin City Vocational College of China to establish a Luban Workshop at the University- specializing in Cloud Computing and Information Security.  The workshop will be one of the 10 workshops to be established in Africa.

She also thanked TSG Company for having introduced TRIBUS to the University with the aim of establishing Ajiry Center at the University.  The center will train, mentor, create jobs and provide business access to enhance the Kenya’s Big Four Agenda.
