Machakos University, in collaboration with the Futures Forum, deployed a four-member team to Marsabit County from March 21 to March 23, 2025. The team, led by Eng. Dr. Charles Mwaniki, Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology, conducted a comprehensive site assessment for the proposed Omni Africa Space Exploration Analog Simulation (OASEAS) research facility. This groundbreaking initiative aims to support climate research and address key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) challenges, positioning Kenya at the forefront of space exploration on the African continent.

The Machakos University team engaged with local Education Institutions, including Hon. Isacko Secondary School in Bubisa, Turbi Girls High School, and Tigo School. As part of their outreach, the delegation donated a computer to the science club of each of the three schools to foster scientific curiosity and technological advancement.

At Tiigo school, the team was honored to meet with the area Member of Parliament, Hon. Wario Adhe Guyo, and the Member of County Assembly for Bubisa /Turbi Ward, Hon. Galgallo Huka. Hon.Wario expressed his strong support for the OASEAS initiative and encouraged the proposal to establish a Machakos University campus in the region. He further highlighted the project’s transformative potential in opening up Marsabit County, fostering regional development, and positioning Kenya as the first African country to establish a dedicated space research center.

The local community warmly embraced the initiative, recognizing its far-reaching benefits in advancing education, scientific research, and economic growth. The project promises to catalyze regional development, education, and Kenya’s position in space exploration.

Machakos University remains committed to pioneering research and innovation, working hand in hand with partners and stakeholders to drive sustainable development and technological advancement across the region.
