JITUME PROGRAM LAUNCH AT MACHAKOS UNIVERSITY

H.E President William Ruto launched the Jitume program in December 2022, aiming to build on the successes of existing digital enablement programs like Ajira Digital and the Kenya Youth Employment Programme.

In a landmark initiative, Machakos University has taken a significant step towards empowering its youth with the launch of Jitume Program. The program, under the “Jitume Opportunities” initiative sponsored by Konza Technopolis, is designed to provide young individuals with access to Digital Services, Digital Skills, and Opportunities, paving the way for job creation and a digital future.

The Chief of Staff & Head of The Public Service, Mr. Felix K. Koskei, presided over the inauguration ceremony of the Jitume Digital Lab at Machakos University. This state-of-the-art lab is equipped with 100 computers, symbolizing a commitment to fostering digital literacy and skill development among the university’s students. Mr. Felix K. Koskei was received by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joyce Agalo, Faculty Members, students and staff of Machakos University, and the wider community of Machakos County.

The Jitume Program aims to bridge the digital gap by enabling young people to harness the power of technology. By offering access to digital services and equipping them with essential digital skills, the initiative seeks to prepare the youth for the evolving job market and open up new horizons for entrepreneurship.

One of the key components of the Jitume Program is the establishment of the Jitume Digital Lab, which will serve as a hub for learning, innovation and research. The lab is designed to facilitate hands-on training in various digital skills, including programming, web development, Data Entry, Research among many others. With 100 computers at their disposal, students at Machakos University now have a dedicated space to enhance their technological proficiency.

Sponsored by Konza Technopolis, a key player in Kenya’s technological advancement, the Jitume program is poised to make a lasting impact on the youth of Machakos University. This initiative aligns with the broader vision of leveraging technology for job creation and economic growth.

Furthermore, the Jitume Program aims to empower the youth to explore business opportunities through e-commerce. By fostering an understanding of online commerce and digital business practices, students will be better equipped to navigate the digital landscape and contribute to the growth of the digital economy.

The launch of the Jitume Digital Lab marks a pivotal moment for Machakos University, signaling its commitment to preparing students for the challenges and opportunities of the digital era. As the youth gain proficiency in digital skills, they are not only enhancing their employability but also becoming catalysts for innovation and progress in the broader community.
