COMPETENCY BASED CURRICULUM TRAINING FOR MACHAKOS UNIVERSITY ACADEMIC STAFF

CBC Training for Machakos University academic staff took place on Monday 15th January 2024 at the university Kilimambogo hall. School of Education under the visionary leadership of Dr. Pamela Muriungi, Dean of the School, hosted the Workshop aimed to equip the academic staff with essential knowledge and skills required for the successful alignment and implementation of university programmes with the CBC framework. The transformative event was enriched by expertise of the esteemed facilitators, Dr. Dorcas Omukhulu, Assistant Commission Secretary from the Commission for University Education and Mr. Josephat Miheso from the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development.

The workshop was officially opened by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joyce Agalo. Her commitment to advancing education and fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the university set the tone for a highly productive and collaborative training session. In attendance were members of the University Management, Dean of Schools, Directors, Chairs of Department and lecturers.

Objectives of the workshop were; implementation of CBC in basic education, implications for teacher education programmes, guidelines for review of curricula for teacher education programme and pedagogical and assessment framework for CBC.

As Machakos University strides forward, the impact of the CBC Training Workshop is expected to resonate in classrooms and lecture halls. The university remains steadfast in its commitment to nurturing a cadre of educators who are well-versed in competency-based education, ultimately contributing to the holistic development of students and the advancement of the institution on the academic frontier. The CBC Training Workshop stands as a testament to Machakos University’s dedication to shaping the future of education in Kenya.
